Egyptology talk this Thursday!
Really, who isn't interested in ancient Egypt?! Please join us for this event to learn more about the early days--
Historian/writer Jason Thompson will discuss travel to Egypt during the European Grand Tour era and talk about his new book, Wonderful Things: A History of Egyptology: From Antiquity to 1881.
The program takes place in Central’s Carnegie Room on July 9 at 7 p.m.
Wonderful Things is a story of the people—famous and obscure—who constructed the picture of ancient Egypt that we have today, recovered the Egyptian past while inventing it anew, and made a lost civilization comprehensible to generations of readers and viewers thousands of years later.
For more details or to register, contact Brenda McDonald at 314.539.0348 or bmcdonald@slpl.org.

Happy Fourth!
Old Glory as seen from the Fine Arts Reference Desk. We'll be closed this Saturday in honor of our Declaration of Independence. If you haven't seen the first two episodes of the HBO series John Adams, they are wonderful depictions of the events leading up to that momentous decision.
