We are open again!

We’re back in business, at the beautifully restored and rejuvenated Central Library downtown!  See http://central.slpl.org/, and many pictures on various social media outlets.

There have been many changes to the organization of the library, and this department is no exception.  We are one of a very few departments that is still in the same room, but our holdings have changed.  We no longer carry the Performing Arts – books and magazines on music, theater, dance, movies, television, etc.   Those materials are next door in the new Entertainment, Literature, and Biography Room.  The Compact Disc collection is in the new space called The Studio.  There they join the DVDs, Talking Books, VHS tapes, and other non-book materials.

New books have just started to trickle in.  Since we won’t be listing the Performing Arts books, we’ll list Reference (also known as Non-Circulating) books now that they are again accessible to you here at Central.

Again, a reminder that as of July, 2012, all the collections of Central Library are unavailable to staff and public.  The move from the temporary storage location and various branches will be a lengthy one, as all materials are prepared, moved, and arranged in their new locations in the renovated building.  Unfortunately this means that the new books that appear in this blog are not able to be requested and sent to branches.  If you see a title you would like to check out, first check the catalog to see if there is a copy at a branch.  If not, please be patient, keep a list, and watch the library’s public announcements for the date when Central’s collections will again be available.

We are truly sorry for this major inconvenience, but it is just not possible to keep the collections accessible while they and the staff are in such flux.   Central Library reopens on December 9, 2012.
